Our society was founded in 1884. Early members included W.C. Piguenit, Haughton Forrest and Arthur Streeton. Today it has a growing membership of established and emerging artists, and since 1948 has had its headquarters at the Lady Franklin Gallery in Lenah Valley, a suburb of Hobart. Our Patron is the Governor of Tasmania.
How to Get There
Buses leave from outside the GPO, Elizabeth St Hobart. On weekends take bus no.6 to its terminus at Ancanthe Park, Lenah Valley.
Taxis or cars travel along Augusta Road and Lenah Valley Road until just past its intersection with Brushy Creek Road. The Gallery is on your left, a car park on your right.
Opening Hours
The Gallery is open 1.30pm - 5pm on Saturdays and Sundays during daylight saving months and 1pm - 4pm during winter months. Closed between Christmas and New Year.
Take
Five!
Look out for an exciting exhibition by five women
artists, taking our inspiration from Tasmania's beautiful environment.
We share a love of watercolour and meet each week to
paint en plein air in a variety of locations. Our paintings range from the
intimate and detailed to broad, sweeping landscapes.
We will be showing our work at Meadowbank Estate near
Richmond from Saturday August 1st to Thursday September 3rd and we'd love to
share it with you.
The informal opening will be at 10.30 am on August 1st but if you can't make it then, why not
come along another time and enjoy the coffee and food at Meadowbank too.
Paintings will be available framed or mounted, and there
will be a wide collection of smaller mounted items for sale too.
Robyn Walker, Jenny Miller, Vijay Pelham, Lesley Hopper
and Pam Adams look forward to seeing you at Meadowbank Estate.
